After graduating from the University of Delaware with a BA in Sociology, Clare moved to Boston, to attend Katherine Gibbs Entre Program. There she mastered speed writing, typing and other administrative skills which jumpstarted her career in retail banking. After a number of years in banking, Clare and her husband Gifford moved to Sudbury. There they had two children which led Clare to become involved in a community based program called the Family Place. The Family Place offered parent and child playgroups, along with workshops for parents. She started as a participant and later became the registrar and treasurer. Eventually she began to facilitate playgroups for young mothers and toddlers.
This led her to work at Steppingstones School in Stow developing a preschool class curriculum for 3 year olds. Clare soon had a third child and continued to work and volunteer in the community. As her daughters grew, she led two separate troops in Girls Scout over the course of 12 years. After taking courses at Wheelock College she became Lead Teacher certified in Preschool as well as with Infant and Toddlers. Clare worked at Steppingstones School for over 20 years with 3 year olds, 4 year olds, and assisted as a Kindergarten aide.
Clare continues to live in Sudbury with her husband Gifford, dog Duke and cat Willy. Her three children are grown and live near-by so the family can get together for special occasions. When Clare is not working, she is an active participant in her church, pursuing yoga classes, walking her dog in Wayland, Massachusetts and the beaches of Lewes, Delaware where she summers with her family. Her favorite time is spent with her grandchildren, cherishing this special time of being a grandparent.
